Aregbesola Humiliated as APC Wins His Own Polling Unit Despite Backing ADC

The All Progressives Congress defeated the African Democratic Congress at the polling unit of former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola in Saturday's governorship election, delivering a symbolic setback in the stronghold of one of the ADC's leading national figures.

At Polling Unit 001, Cooperative Building Junction, Isare, Ward 08, Ilesa East Local Government Area, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji secured 256 votes to emerge first. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party came second with 43 votes, while ADC candidate Najeem Salaam, who Aregbesola has publicly backed, polled just 13 votes. The APC also won a second polling unit near Aregbesola's family compound, 202 votes to Accord's 110 and ADC's 12.

Aregbesola, who governed Osun from 2010 to 2018 and later served as Minister of Interior under the APC before defecting to the ADC, is the party's national secretary and one of its most prominent figures in the state. The APC went on to win Ilesa East local government overall, with Oyebamiji polling 16,208 votes to Adeleke's 12,280, while Aregbesola's ADC managed just 504 votes in the LGA.
