Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed that Marcus Rashford will remain at Old Trafford this season, ending speculation about the forward's future after a loan spell away from the club.
"He's our player, and he's come back great," Carrick told ITV Sport after United's pre-season win over Leeds, settled on penalties following a 1-1 draw. "He's just like any other player. I've known Marcus a long time, and he gives us something a little bit different."
United had reportedly hoped to sell Rashford permanently through a £26 million option built into his loan move to Barcelona, but the Catalan club chose not to activate it, instead signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle. That left the 28-year-old, who still has two years remaining on his £325,000-a-week contract, back at Old Trafford with his future uncertain.
"He has been in great spirits since he's been back... it's pretty normal, to be honest," Carrick said, adding that Rashford was expected to feature alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martínez in United's final pre-season fixture against AC Milan. Rashford was left out of the squad for the Leeds match but could make his first Manchester United appearance since December 2024 this coming weekend.
