The Independent National Electoral Commission says an attack on one of its Permanent Voter Card collection centres in Osun State will not deter it from conducting a free, fair, and credible governorship election on Saturday.
Police said about ten armed hoodlums stormed the Oyinlola DC Primary School collection centre in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area, firing shots into the air before making away with three packs of PVCs and reportedly carting off Bimodal Voter Accreditation System devices.
INEC's Chief Press Secretary, Dayo Oketola, said the incident had been reported to police and was under investigation, but stressed it would not affect the commission's preparations. "INEC cannot be distracted. We will conduct a free and fair election in Osun," he said, adding that 4,427 BVAS devices, including 664 backup units, had been configured for the election, and that no registered voter would be disenfranchised over stolen PVCs.
