Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde was formally elected presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) at the party's national convention in Bauchi on Thursday, naming former Department of State Services Director-General Lawal Musa Daura as his running mate for the 2027 election.
Daura, who led the DSS from 2015 to 2018 under the Buhari administration, replaces Ibrahim Adamu Bala, who had earlier been listed as a placeholder running mate on INEC's nomination portal. Makinde said Daura's intelligence background made him a deliberate choice to help address Nigeria's security challenges.
"As we approach 2027, the task before all of us is bigger than winning an election. It is to give Nigerians a real choice about the future of their country," Makinde told the convention. He called on Nigeria's opposition parties to work together to present a credible alternative in 2027, pledging to tackle insecurity and economic hardship if elected.
