Troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD have foiled an advance by terrorists riding an estimated 200 motorcycles from Zamfara State into Niger State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and 398 rounds of ammunition in the operation.

According to an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of the terrorists toward Inana Village in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State. Troops of the 311 Army Reconnaissance Battalion, under 18 Brigade, engaged the terrorists at Majai and Tungan Bisallah villages.

The operation is the latest in a series of engagements as security forces continue to push back against armed groups operating across Nigeria's North-West and North-Central states.
