The Federal Government has expressed concern over escalating hostilities between Houthi forces in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, warning that disruption to navigation in the Red Sea could severely affect global oil supplies, maritime trade, and the wider world economy.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said Nigeria remains neutral in the conflict but urged all parties to embrace dialogue and diplomacy, noting that the tensions come amid unresolved disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
As a major oil-producing nation, Nigeria said it was particularly concerned that any blockade of the Bab al-Mandab Strait or sustained disruption to Red Sea shipping lanes would have direct consequences for global energy security. The government reaffirmed its sympathy with Saudi Arabia over attacks on its oil facilities and pledged support for international efforts to protect maritime infrastructure.
