Nigeria's entertainment industry is reeling from a devastating run of losses, with four well-known figures dying within days of one another in early August.
The wave of grief began with the death of juju musician Iyun Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, following a brief illness. Celebrated for blending traditional juju and highlife rhythms with street humour and bold lyrics, she built a loyal following through her energetic stage presence. She is set to be laid to rest on August 13 at Saint James Anglican Church in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
The industry had barely processed that loss when respected filmmaker Dimbo Atiya died at 53. Atiya was a well-regarded figure in Nigerian television, known for productions including Sons of the Caliphate, Halita, and The Rishantes that drew wide critical acclaim.
Actress Tope Osoba and Coach Lara also died within the same period, prompting an outpouring of tributes across the industry, including a candlelight vigil and Artists' Night held in Lagos to honour those who had passed.
