Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ishyaku Mohammed to Osun State to coordinate security operations ahead of Saturday's governorship election, the Nigeria Police Force announced.
Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu said the deployment is part of the police's operational measures to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible electoral process across the state. DIG Mohammed will coordinate the police component of election security and work with other agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), supported by Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police deployed across Osun's three senatorial districts.
The IGP warned that ballot snatching, voter intimidation, political thuggery, and other electoral offences would attract immediate arrest and prosecution. He also reiterated a ban on armed escorts and unauthorised persons accompanying political figures to polling units or collation centres on election day, and barred state-established security outfits, including the Western Nigeria Security Network ("Amotekun"), and other quasi-security or private security groups from election-security duties.
The Force said security arrangements cover voters, INEC personnel, election materials, polling units, and collation centres, and urged eligible citizens to vote peacefully and without fear.
