Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered an investigation after a police constable, Daniel Aibana, resigned from the Nigeria Police Force citing depression and frustration over repeated failed attempts to secure a redeployment.
In a resignation letter addressed to the Inspector-General of Police and now circulating on social media, Aibana, attached to the EOD-CBRN Base 19 in Ibadan, said he had made "several attempts to seek demobilisation and redeployment to another department where I believed I could serve more effectively," but was not granted release. He said the decision to resign, effective August 10, was "a necessary step toward protecting my mental health and restoring stability to my life," rather than a reflection of ingratitude toward the force.
Reacting on X, the Oyo State Police Command described the matter as "purely an internal affair" and confirmed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the resignation.
