Paris Saint-Germain won the UEFA Super Cup for a second consecutive year, beating Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg on Wednesday to open their 2026-27 season with silverware.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put PSG ahead in the 20th minute, cutting inside from a Désiré Doué pass before firing past goalkeeper Marco Bizot. Aston Villa, competing in the final as Europa League champions, equalised before half-time through 17-year-old striker Brian Madjo, making his competitive debut for the club.
Doué struck what proved to be the winner in the 61st minute, running onto a through-ball from Ousmane Dembélé and finishing into the side-netting. The goal was initially flagged for offside before being awarded after a video review confirmed Villa defender Matty Cash had played him onside. Villa pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but couldn't find a way past PSG's defence.
The win makes PSG only the fourth club in the competition's history to win the Super Cup in back-to-back years, following Ajax, AC Milan, and Real Madrid. It's PSG's fifth European trophy overall, coming just weeks after their second consecutive UEFA Champions League title. The club continues its season this weekend against Lens in the Trophée des Champions.
