The Rivers State Police Command has arrested 18 suspected criminals, including a fake soldier allegedly involved in car snatching, and recovered 47 firearms of various calibres, 12 stolen vehicles, and 420 rounds of live ammunition in operations conducted across the state between June and August 12, 2026.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, disclosed the figures while parading suspects and displaying recovered exhibits at the command's headquarters in Port Harcourt. Among the cases detailed was the June 29 killing of two police officers on stop-and-search duty in Aluu, in which hoodlums made away with two AK-47 rifles; police say three suspects linked to the attack have since been arrested, with the stolen rifles recovered.
Separately, operatives arrested two suspected members of a "one-chance" robbery syndicate and recovered firearms from a man accused of threatening his wife in Bonny. Adepoju said the command was working closely with the military, DSS, and other security agencies, and commended Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu for his support, urging residents to keep sharing credible information with police.
