The Sokoto State Government has approved N1.759 billion for the purchase of 1,000 Bajaj motorcycles to support security agencies in tackling banditry and strengthen security operations across the state.

The approval came at the sixth regular meeting of the Sokoto State Executive Council for 2026, presided over by Deputy Governor Idris Muhammad Gobir. According to Director-General of Media and Publicity Abubakar Bawa, the motorcycles will complement 62 armoured vehicles worth N27 billion the state recently acquired and distributed to security agencies.

The government said the additional motorcycles would improve the mobility of security personnel, particularly in remote communities and difficult terrain affected by banditry. The council also approved N90.21 million for plumbing infrastructure serving 142 semi-urban water supply schemes across the state.
