Manchester United's £39m deal for Atalanta midfielder Éderson has fallen through after he failed a medical, though the club hasn't fully ruled out reviving the move later in the window.
Manchester United's move for Atalanta midfielder Éderson has collapsed after the Brazilian failed a medical, ending, for now, what would have been the club's first major signing of the summer.
United had agreed a fee of £35 million plus £4 million in add-ons with Atalanta, and Éderson had completed the first phase of his medical while away with Brazil at the 2026 World Cup. But after further examination, United chose not to proceed with the paperwork. Atalanta said the player is fully fit and ready to return, and their new sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli said the club were "stunned" the move broke down.
United have denied the deal is completely off, and Sky Sports reports the club may revisit signing Éderson later in the transfer window, though not at the original price and structure. In the meantime, United have turned their attention elsewhere, completing a £50m signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and closing in on Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
