NAFDAC Orders Recall and Destruction of Alcohol in Sachets and Small PET Bottles

NAFDAC has ordered the recall and destruction of alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and small PET bottles, enforcing a long-planned phase-out aimed at curbing abuse and underage access.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has ordered the recall and destruction of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and small-volume PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, moving to enforce a long-planned phase-out.
NAFDAC Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, said the measure targets the availability of cheap, easily concealed alcohol linked to abuse and underage consumption, with data showing a significant share of underage Nigerians have accessed alcohol through such packaging. The phase-out follows an earlier undertaking signed by distillers and marketers under the Distillers and Blenders Association of Nigeria (DIBAN).
The agency said it would work with manufacturers, distributors and state task forces to ensure compliance and remove non-compliant products from circulation nationwide.
