The union says more than 200 academics, including professors, have quit KASU over poor pay, and has issued a two-week ultimatum before a possible indefinite strike.
More than 200 lecturers, including professors, have resigned from Kaduna State University (KASU) over poor conditions of service and the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU agreement, the university’s ASUU chapter has said.
ASUU-KASU Chairman Dr Abubakar Abdullahi disclosed this at a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, warning that the union had issued a two-week ultimatum to the state government and university authorities to implement the agreement or face “a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike.”
Abdullahi said the 2025 agreement took effect in January 2026 but had yet to be implemented at KASU. He said most of the departed lecturers had secured jobs at newer universities, and blamed poor remuneration and declining welfare that had left KASU staff among the least-paid university workers in the country.
He warned that the exodus of experienced academics could damage teaching and research for years, and cautioned that continued delay would lead to accumulating salary arrears dating to January 2026.
