Nigerian Stocks Fall for Seventh Straight Session, Shedding About ₦5 Trillion in a Week

The Nigerian Exchange extended its correction for a seventh consecutive session on Wednesday, with market capitalisation down roughly ₦5 trillion over the seven-day slide.

The Nigerian equities market extended its decline on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, with the All-Share Index (ASI) falling for a seventh consecutive session as selling pressure in oil and gas heavyweights — particularly Aradel Holdings — deepened the correction.

The ASI fell 0.36% to close at 240,750.47 points, down from 241,611.23 on Tuesday, while market capitalisation dropped about ₦555.68 billion to ₦155.42 trillion. Over the seven straight sessions from Tuesday, August 11, the index has shed about 3.13%, with market capitalisation falling roughly ₦5 trillion from ₦160.42 trillion on August 10 to ₦155.42 trillion.

Analysts noted the market remains firmly positive for the year, with a year-to-date return still above 54%, describing the pullback as a healthy correction after an earlier record rally.
