More than 20 people were reportedly killed in a midnight attack on Binper community in Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, as heavily armed men moved house to house.
More than 20 people have reportedly been killed and several others injured after gunmen attacked Binper community in the Bwai District of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack occurred between midnight on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
According to residents, the heavily armed attackers moved from house to house, forcing their way into homes and targeting people who were asleep. An eyewitness, Daniel Musa, said more than 20 people had been confirmed dead as of Tuesday morning, with several others seriously injured and some still missing. Reports said several houses were burnt and farmlands destroyed.
The National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, Bulus Dabit, confirmed the incident. Community members appealed to the newly appointed state Commissioner of Police to act decisively. The attack came less than a week after a separate incident in the same district left three people dead.
As of filing, security agencies had not issued an official statement confirming the casualty figure.
